Super Bowl Commercials
What did you think?
As in 2007, we Colts fans were more interested in the Super Bowl game than in the commercials that interrupted it. That said, it is always fun to see which ads are considered the “best”, as well as the “worst”. Rarely is there agreement — and this year is no different.
Let’s start with the “experts”: an Ad Age pundit and marketing executives surveyed by the Wall Street Journal.
Ad Age’s top three:
1. Audi – The Green Police
2. Dodge Chargers – Man’s Last Stand
3. Qualcomm’s FloTV – Jim Nantz, Spineless
WSJ’s top three:
1. Denny’s – Chickens
2. Coke – Simpsons
3. Snickers – Betty White
Now, let’s take a look at what consumers thought: USA Today’s “real time” ad meter and “NFL Fans” ratings.
USA Today’s top three:
1. Snickers – Betty White
2. Doritos – Dog Gets Revenge
3. Bud Light – Light House
NFL Fan’s top three:
1. Doritos – Dog Gets Revenge
2. TruTV – Punxsutawney Polamalu
3. HomeAway – Chevy Chase Vacation
So can one surmise that Doritos and Snickers are the winners, at least with the people and marketing executives? Ad Age trashed them both.
Interestingly, the three commercials that have generated the most “buzz” didn’t make anyone’s top three: Google, David Letterman and Focus on the Family. In fact, Ad Age didn’t even rate these three ads.
The one commercial that everyone did agree on? The worst: drum roll… GoDaddy. Sorry, Danica.
My top three, you ask? E-Trade, David Letterman and Monster. Like we said, rarely is there agreement.
What about you? What was your favorite? Or, if you can’t choose just one, your top three?
